RE: Incoming WiFi signal booster

I just bought a RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N USB adapter from Netgear. I will let you know how it works out.

RE: Incoming WiFi signal booster

Bucky, your link is 2.5 years old, that is ancient information in the tech field.
Jim, your information was too sophisticated for me. Do these things plug into my laptop? What about software? Do I need an adapter AND an antenna? What does the antenna plug into to?

Incoming WiFi signal booster

Please don't tell me to do a search on here, as I already did it. But I am still confused. A lot of the results on "wifi booster" tell me about how to boost my signal going out and I want the best device that will amplify the incoming signals so I can find those free hot spots while traveling. And how do you attach such a thing to my laptop? What works for you? What should I be looking for? What problems to watch out for? Thanks!

Transmission Fluid overheating in '91 Toyota?

Someone told me that the transmission fluid overheats in these old Toyotas and that I should install a fan. Anyone know about this?

RE: Some advice on how to track location

Ok, you said "# Get a Google account
# Click on "My Maps"
# Click on "Create New Map"
# Enter an address and click on "Search Maps" button
# Top left corner is a "marker" icon
# Drag Icon onto map where you want it.
# Save map."
I got to the "enter address" part and was stymied. Where exactly to you enter an address? Thanks!

RE: Some advice on how to track location

Yes, my friends and family do indeed care about my whereabouts, especially since I travel solo. I tried the google maps, but could figure out how to put a pin in to mark the location. I will check into the Woodalls site, thanks rockhillmanor!

Some advice on how to track location

I would like to be able to let friends and family know where I am (beginning full timer) with some kind of widget that can be placed on my blog (a US map with a flag on it?). It doesn't have to be real time, I can manually update it with the coordinates from my GPS.

2 Hour roof re-caulking?

I have a roof leak in my 21' Toyota C and the local RV repair and dealership said they would re-caulk it for around $200 as it would take 2 hours. I asked if there was a warrantee and they said no, a roof needs to be re-caulked every 6 months. The last time I had it done was 3 years ago in AZ (4 hours and almost $500 and used Dycor) and the fellow guaranteed the work for one year. What questions should I be asking? Does this local guy sound ok?

RE: GPS widget

Thanks Al, I might try the google map, but the weather underground would be too cumbersome as I move often. I was thinking along the lines of something where all I need to do is enter the gps coordinates.

GPS widget

Does anyone know where I can get a "widget" to put on my web based travel blog that will show where I am located? It will help preserve the sanity of my friends and family :). I have a Garmin 780 and Windows on my laptop.

RE: Vermont as a home base?

I live in Vermont and just started full timing a month ago. For right now I am keeping VT as my home base because of my health insurance. I choose a SD mail forwarding business because they have the best. I am still a VT resident. The town clerk still lets me vote, just as long as I haven't chosen another state as my domicile. My RV is still VT registered. I have yet to decide if I will keep VT as my residence, in 2 years I will be on Medicare and can live anywhere. I like Vermont a lot and am proud to be from here and have those green tags, great conversation starter. But then again, it would save me money to be from SD. Hope this helps a little. Let me know if I can answer any other questions, feel free to PM me.

RE: class c fulltimers..maintenance questions??

Gee, I just have my local mechanic take care of the routine maintenance on my C. The same guy that does my car. No lift, he just crawls under. So far I have been very satisfied.

RE: How to get an RV to Hawaii?

Thanks everyone, you answered my question quite satisfactorily! No sense in getting one there if there is no place to use it. Guess that idea is out, oh well, maybe a B&B would be nice.

Adding a Tachometer to an old C

How easy or hard and how expensive is it to add a tachometer to a 1991 Toyota 6cyl automatic with a 22RE engine? I have to hire someone to do this. My reason for asking is that I think it would help me to save gas if I could read the RPM's like I do in my Camry.
